What is a Doula?
The word "doula" comes from ancient Greek and has the meaning of woman caregiver. A doula is a trained and certified professional labor and delivery support person. We are trained to empower you as a strong woman in your journey to motherhood. As a doula we provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions about your birth plan. We recognize childbirth as a key experience the mother will remember for life. We understand the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of the woman in labor. We stay with the woman throughout labor and provide emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint. A doula facilitates communication between a laboring woman, her partner, and clinical care provider. A doula also provides for the woman's partner to participate at their comfort level. Doulas create a well rounded and comfortable environment that helps to ensure a positive birth experience.
